Tim Federle grew up in San Francisco and Pittsburgh before moving to New York to dance on Broadway, where he appeared in the original casts of The Little Mermaid and the 2003 revival of Gypsy before coaching the child stars of Billy Elliot. He served as the associate director for the first national tour of Little House on the Prairie and the West End premiere of Sister Act The Musical at the London Palladium. Tim was the associate choreographer for Face the Music at City Center Encores! and Little House on the Prairie at Guthrie Theater. He was dance captain for the first national tour of Spamalot and the world premiere of White Christmas the musical in San Francisco. Tim appeared in the Super Bowl XXXIV half-time show as a backup dancer for Christina Aguilera as well as Bye Bye Birdie at Encores!, War & Peace at the Metropolitan Opera, and The Radio City Music Hall Christmas Spectacular. His regional credits include various productions at Goodspeed Opera House, Paper Mill Playhouse, Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera, Walnut Street Theater, Atlanta Theater of the Stars, and Stages St. Louis.
Tim’s debut novel for kids, Better Nate Than Ever was named a New York Times Book Review Notable Book of 2013, a Slate.com Favorite Book of the Year, and a Best Book of the Year by both Amazon and Publishers Weekly. The sequel, Five, Six, Seven, Nate!, follows Nate Foster’s further adventures onstage and off. It was named a Best Book of 2014 by Amazon, and received starred reviews from Publishers Weekly and Kirkus. His picture book, Tommy Can’t Stop!, about a rambunctious little boy who finally gets out of trouble (and into the spotlight) when he discovers tap dance class, will be published by Disney in 2015. He is currently at work on a new series of books for Simon & Schuster publishing, tentatively entitled Theater Kid Chronicles.
