MSA’s schedule of classes and lessons is subject to change or cancellation at any time based on enrollment, faculty availability and studio space constraints. Students will be contacted as soon as possible if a change to their class or lesson is deemed necessary.

The MSA staff may take photographs or videos of students, individually or in groups, attending or taking part in classes, programs and events. These photographs or videos may appear in MSA’s own or other publications, on our website, on social media or in other publicity. Students and/or participants consent to having their photograph taken or such videos shown and used for such purposes.

Performance is a vital aspect to a quality performing arts education. Our productions are professionally produced and give our students an opportunity to experience the joy of sharing their work with a live audience. Participation is optional however highly encouraged. Some productions require mandatory blocking and dress rehearsals. Students enrolling after January 1, 2017 must obtain permission from the Artistic Director and Studio Director to participate in the spring performances.

Metropolitan School of the Arts reserves the right to cancel and terminate this agreement at any time.

YOUTH DANCE & THEATER POLICIES

Dancing is physical skill and in order to help and facilitate the student’s learning the teacher may need to physically guide a movement by touch. Touch promotes kinesthetic learning and can produce a quicker response to correction than other teaching tools.

To provide the most professional experience for your children, the faculty of MSA will strictly enforce dress code attire beginning the third week of classes. Proper hair and attire prevent physical obstruction in dance class. All students must have their hair in a classical ballet bun to participate in ballet class. A $3 bun kit will be provided and charged to the account on file if a student attends ballet class without a proper bun. Hair must be worn off the neck and out of the face for all tap and jazz classes. Program-specific dress code information and a list of retailers are available online or by request at the front desk.

To maximize our educational standards, a minimum attendance standard is required. Students who arrive more than 10 minutes late may be asked to observe class. Repeated tardiness may result in termination of classes. If a student misses more than 4 classes without written notice, their enrollment may be terminated at the discretion of the Studio Director.

Dance/theater students missing more than 3 classes after January may not be permitted to participate in the Spring Production and will thereby forfeit all associated costume and production fees.

A student may make up an absence by attending another section of the same class. A maximum of 3 makeup classes is allowed per student per year. No make-up classes are permitted after April 15 due to performance preparations taking place in classes during that time period.

MUSIC LESSON POLICIES

Students will provide their own instruments and supplies (i.e. picks, strings, etc.), with the exception of piano. For piano students, it is recommended that a piano is available at home so the student is able to practice. All students are required to provide their own lesson music. Teachers will make recommendations for music purchases.

MSA does not offer refunds. No credits or make-up lessons are offered for missed or cancelled private lessons, unless the cancellation is due to a weather closing or teacher absence. Students are entitled to 3 make-up lessons during the year, provided that the school is notified before 12:00 p.m. on the day of the lesson they must miss. 2 makeup lessons will equal one makeup master class. The third make-up lesson will be scheduled at the discretion of the instructor. MSA reserves the right to determine the method of making up a missed music lesson.

In the case of a teacher’s absence or of cancellation due to inclement weather, MSA may at its sole discretion arrange a substitute instructor, schedule a make-up class, or provide a credit to following month’s fees.
