In September 2013, the Academy at Metropolitan School of the Arts welcomed its first class of 12 highly creative, inspiring and innovative students.

——————————————
What motivated these 12 students and families to leave the comfort of their middle/high school experience and join a brand new school?

Because our students are artists. They think outside of the box. They are innovators. They have a voice.

Our families wanted a school where the Head of School knew their name, where the spirit and character of their child was just as important as their test scores.

We collectively wanted a college preparatory experience that was not geared toward taking SOL’s (hooray!), but was focused on the journey and process of learning.

Our parents want a competitive high school program that will offer endless possibilities for their child’s future.

Our students want to pursue their passion in the performing arts and feel challenged in their academics–in fact, they are so confident that we often refer to them as scholar-artists. Our students are multi-passionate and multi-talented as most artists are!

At the Academy, we embrace uniqueness. We embrace diversity and we celebrate off the wall ideas. We meet the needs of creative beings and support creative thought!

We sing down the hallways, tap dance during biology and study physics through dance. We act out our Spanish lessons and meet people from all around the world.

The Academy is demanding. Students here learn quickly learn the importance of self discipline and time management. We strive to be EXTRAORDINARY in all we do.

Creativity is the norm here. We wouldn’t have it any other way.

Check out this video that sums it up nicely!

So far, we’re excited to welcome 24 students to our 2014-2015 school year! We are still accepting applications, however space is limited.
