Fall Master Class Faculty
GINGER COX is on faculty at Broadway Dance Center (BDC), Pace University, and the Joffrey Ballet Contemporary Jazz Program. She’s taught Master Classes throughout Europe, Mexico and Japan, at the Dance Encore festival in Quebec, the Earl Mosley Summer Institute, and the Alvin Ailey Arts/Education Program. She’s choreographed for Nike, the NJ Nets Dancers, recording artist Lijie, Dancing Wheels Company, Collaborative Movement Dance Company, the Hanayashiki Show in Japan, Independent films, industrials, and was one of the 10 chosen to present work in the Elan Awards, honoring Mr. Lar Lubavich. As the Artistic Director of LiNK! the movement dance company her versatile choreography was described as ‘absorbing and inventive, with amusing creativity’ by Jazz dance enews. Bob Boross said, “The greatest exploration of the choreographic voice within jazz dance was seen in the work of Ginger Cox.” Ginger has a BFA in Dance, from Temple University and a Masters Degree in Kinesiology. She is the co-creator of Choreographer’s Workshop and the Dance Educator Development program at BDC, and has contributed for articles in Dance Teacher Magazine, Dance Spirit and Jazz Pulsions. She is on the Advisory Board for the Young Choreographers Dance Festival. Linkdancecompany.org. JOSE de la CUESTA is a well know director/choreographer living in NY. Credits include: “A Chorus Line”, “Sugar Babies”, “West Side Story”, and “42nd Street”. His work has been performed at Carnegie Hall twice and he wrote and directory an original production called “A Funky Fairytale” for Trumps Casino in Atlantic City to critical acclaim and was held over twice. He received the presticious Carbonnell Awad for best choreographer for The Broward Stage Door Production of “42nd Street”. As a performer Jose has worked in all areas of perfrorming and has toured extensively in the United States and Internationally. He has also worked with such stars as Chita Rivera, Barbara Eden, Brooke Shields, and Lonnie Anderson among others. He is also a renowned teacher and has wored at several studios and universities nationwide and is currently on the staff of Broadway Dance Center and was a professor of dance at Farleigh Dickinson University. He was the resident director/choregrapher for Hersheypark for many years and wrote many of their shows. His work there won several awards for Best Themepark Shows in the country and internationally. He most recently direct a hit production of “South Pacific” and is starting a production of “Titanic” as well as an original nightclub show he created, “All That Jazz” based on the music of Kander and Ebb.
LINDA GELINAS was the former Dance Captain and a Principal dancer with the Metropolitan Opera Ballet. She is recognized in the Metropolitan Opera Archives, as having danced the most principal roles in the history of the Metropolitan Opera House at Lincoln Center. She performed with Edward Villella and Dancers and was a member of the Eglevsky Ballet, both under the direction of Mr. Villella. Linda performed with Alexander Godunov and Friends, the Pavlova Celebration Tour, the Nureyev-Joffrey Ballet Tribute to Nijinsky, Boston Repertory Company and more. She has performed works by Alvin Ailey, George Balanchine, Jean-Pierre Bonnefoux, Sean Curran, Carmen de Lavallade, Agnes de Mille, Bob Fosse, Robert LaFosse, Mark Morris, Alexei Ratmansky, Jerome Robbins, Edward Villella, Christopher Wheeldon, and many more. She also performed the role of Louise in a New England Tour of Carousel. Linda is on the faculty at the Juilliard School and Steps on Broadway, teaches company class at the Metropolitan Opera, teaches at the Joffrey Ballet School and New York University. Linda also teaches at the Hong Kong International Dance Summer Intensive, was the Ballet Mistress for the Festival Company at the Chautauqua Institution and has taught and choreographed for the Miami City Ballet School. She taught at the Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp, Manhattan Youth Ballet, Broadway Dance Center, Ballet Arts, Columbia Performing Arts Center and has been a guest teacher at multiple schools throughout the country. She was the former resident choreographer and dance instructor for the Marcello Giordani Young Artist Program and the Opera Children’s Chorus at the Crested Butte Music Festival. There, she choreographed Carmen, Magic Flute, L’Elisir d’Amore, Hansel and Gretel, Barber of Seville and Pirates of Penzance. Linda received her formal training at the Joffrey Ballet School and the Boston Ballet School. She is also a certified Pilates instructor and is a graduate of the New York Film Academy.
International dancer and choreographer JORDAN WASHINGTON (Toronto/Windsor) is a former core stepper for the legendary Black Ice step company. He is an entertainer and a soul movement enthusiast with the objective to develop and cultivate the minds of artists through quality education and higher learning. Jordan’s knowledge and ear for music, complimented by his diligent practice and persona, has made way for him to provide vital service to the under-served dance community nationwide. His new ideals and extraordinary visions can be seen in his works with media outlets Bravo, MuchMusic, BET, and CTV. Jordan’s credits include Ariana Grande, Lenny Kravitz, Janelle Monae, Sean Paul, Divine Brown, Canadian Idol’s Eva Avila, and Gary Beals, the motion picture How She Moves, and the Grey Cup Half Time Show. He also choreograped for the 2010 Olympic Games Corporate stages. With over eight years of experience in the music and dance industry, Jordan has emerged as a dynamic flame to aid the next generation of hungry minds.
NICHOLAS YOUNG is a New York based, Dancer, Musician and Choreographer, most recently a cast member of the Off Broadway sensation STOMP. Nicholas performed the lead roll for both the touring and New York based shows, acted as rehearsal director for the American tour, and is grateful to have spent more than 9 years with the show. Nicholas began his professional carrier at the age of 16 with the multi-formed Tapestry Dance Company of Austin, TX. Under the direction of Acia Gray and Deirdre Strand, he eventually moved to the positions of principal dancer and resident choreographer. While in Austin he was awarded ” Best Male Dancer ” in 2001, and ” Best Choreography ” in 2003, by the Austin Critics Council. Since moving to New York, Nicholas has performed with Manhattan Tap, Rumba Tap, Hoofing to Hitting with Jared Grimes, Jazz in Motion with Sarah and Leela Petronio in Paris, and most recently with Michelle Dorrance’s company, ” Dorrance Dance “, in her critically acclaimed work, Sound Space, in which Brian Seibert of the New York Times stated ” But the height of virtuosity came in a late body-percussion solo by Nicholas Young. Snapping, clapping, stomping and clicking his tongue, Mr. Young played the church with his body, a one-man band juggling two or three rhythms at once, developing a sophisticated composition within Ms. Dorrance’s.” Nicholas has been a featured percussionist with Cyro Baptista’s fusion Brazilian ensemble ” Beat The Donkey ” and as drummer for Indi-pop star Darwin Deez, touring throughout North and South America, Europe, and Japan. His original compositions and production were included in the newly released tap dance documentary Tap or Die directed by Jackie Pare’. Nicholas is currently on faculty at Broadway Dance Center, and has been a master teacher for festivals world wide teaching Tap and Body Percussion for; Chicago Human Rhythm Project, Soul to Sole, New York’s Tap City, Stockholm Tap Festival, and many others. He recently premiered his New York based dance company SoundMovement in which Trina Mannino for the Dance Enthusiast reviewed “The most ground breaking use of rhythm was found in SoundMovement Dance Company’s Environments.” In the summer of 2013, Nicholas premiered an evening of dance, sound design, and music.
The Company project features innovative choreography by MSA faculty and renowned guest artists including: Tiffanie Carson, Jaqueline Doherty, Stephanie Dorrycott, Sara Hart, Jared Jenkins, Roxanne King, Charles Renato, Jeffrey Rogers, and Caroline Frankil Warren. This one of a kind showcase features pre-professional dance companies – iMpulse, Metropolitan Youth Ballet, and the Metropolitan Youth Tap Ensemble, dynaMYTE and local professional musicians.
