April 30: Metropolitan Youth Ballet Presents "Cinderella" @ The George Washington National Masonic Memorial Theater | Alexandria | Virginia | United States

Don’t miss one of the most enchanting rags-to-riches storybook ballets – Cinderella! This is the endearing story of a young girl who keeps the words of her parents close to her heart; she remains faithful to being courageous and kind! Though cruelly mistreated, by her comically portrayed ugly sisters and stepmother, Cinderella remains virtuous. Watch and believe as the beauty of magic is bought to life. Cinderella’s very own fairy godmother transforms Cinderella’s from rags to riches! Watch the prince have his heart captured by this beautiful mysterious guest who dashes off at the stroke of midnight, leaving only her glass slipper behind………….

Dancer Wellness Workshop: Safety First @ Metropolitan School of the Arts | Alexandria | Virginia | United States

This workshop is designed to provide the dancer with tools to stay healthy before, during, and after high intensity dance schedules.  We will begin by reviewing the physical and emotional demands on the body during rehearsal/performance season and discuss ways to prevent injury by properly warming up, cooling down, cross training, and adjusting your work outs to prevent overtraining.  We will then review how to maintain fitness during the off season (most often Summer) and discuss how to care for our bodies if an injury occurs.  Last, we will briefly cover the nutritional demands placed on a dancer’s body and provide recommendations for caloric intake and healthy food options to properly fuel the dancer’s body.
