The PATHWAYS program at Metropolitan School of the Arts gives students a real world experience that prepares them for success in their choice post secondary options.
The program consists of individual mentorship meetings, held at least four times per year along with dedicated PATHWAYS time scheduled each week. In individual PATHWAYS session, our students are taught to identify their goals, to create a measurable plan to work toward them, to understand the required skills needed to achieve them and how take positive, bold action to realize them, both academically and artistically.

MIDDLE SCHOOL PATHWAYS AND CLUBS
Exploring and experiencing multiple pathways and interests is the focus for students in grades 7-8. An electronic portfolio of transcripts and arts and academic accomplishments is begun.
Laurel Springs offers classes in photography, drawing and light; foreign language through fairy tales, book club, travel club, film and theater club, computer app club, equestrian club and many more.

FRESHMAN PATHWAYS: TRANSITIONS
In adapting to new realities, students need a guide to chart a course through all the choices and opportunities. Freshman PATHWAYS includes an analysis of learning preferences and the study skills required to achieve targeted results given a personalized schedule of curricular and co-curricular activities. Master classes, workshops and opportunities help create a solid foundation for academic and artistic success that is monitored through quarterly, student-led review.
Students begin career exploration and development and begin to set goals for initiation, flexibility, enhancing working memory, time and space management, planning, organization, self-awareness and self-regulation.

SOPHOMORE YEAR: INWARD AND OUTWARD JOURNEYS

Sophomore PATHWAYS experiences give each student the opportunity discover gifts and passions; then identify pathways for sharing as a positive force in the community. Service work provides a chance to apply critical and creative thinking skills to authentic challenges. Character traits of compassion, selflessness and support of others are deepened through inward and outward journeys.
Application to the National Honor Society is completed in the spring of the sophomore year.

JUNIOR YEAR SEMINAR and COLLEGE AND CAREER PORTFOLIO

The Junior PATHWAYS experience will complete SAT and ACT prep and begin to codify your work into the resume, letters of recommendations, documenting achievement recognitions, GPA, essays and videos into the electronic portfolio required for your post-secondary pursuits.

SENIOR YEAR SEMINAR COLLEGE and CAREER APPLICATIONS and AUDITIONS
You will also spend time finalizing your PATHWAYS PORTFOLIO which is a cumulative resource that includes your resume, letters of recommendation, head shot, video and photo reel of performance, college entrance essays and pre-screening audition materials that align with your goals. Each graduating senior performs a live senior work demonstrating technical and artistic excellence in his or her chosen arts genre.
Your Senior PATHWAYS experience will culminate in your senior project, college visits, and application submission and acceptance.
